The Dog Days of Summer: Why I Photograph at Sunrise

Why You Won't See Me Photographing Dogs Outdoors During the Day in Florida (And Why That's a Good Thing)

If you've been hoping to schedule a photography session this summer, I offer very limited outdoor availability. That's completely intentional.

Here on the Florida Gulf Coast, our summers bring more than just beautiful sunshine—they also bring dangerous heat, high humidity, and scorching surfaces that can quickly become unsafe for both dogs and their people.

At Izzy Rue PhoDOGraphy, your dog's safety and comfort will always come before getting the perfect photograph.

Why I Don't Schedule Midday Outdoor Sessions

Dogs don't cool themselves the same way we do. They rely primarily on panting and have very few sweat glands, which means they can overheat much faster than people.

Even when the air temperature seems manageable, the ground is often much hotter.

  • Sidewalks, asphalt, docks, and parking lots can become hot enough to burn paw pads.

  • Sand at the beach can become extremely hot in direct sunlight.

  • High humidity makes it much harder for dogs to cool themselves.

  • Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can happen surprisingly quickly, especially for puppies, senior dogs, brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds, and dogs with medical conditions.

No photograph is worth putting a dog at risk.

What Sessions I Am Offering During the Summer

During the hottest months of the year, I offer:

Outdoor Sessions

  • Very early morning sessions shortly after sunrise, when temperatures are cooler and the light is soft and beautiful.

  • Limited evening sessions only when weather conditions are safe.

Indoor Sessions

  • In-home lifestyle sessions

  • Mobile studio sessions at your location

  • Indoor business or commercial pet photography

These options allow your dog to stay comfortable while still creating beautiful images you'll treasure for years.

Why Sunrise Is My Favorite

Many people are surprised to learn that sunrise is actually one of the best times for photography.

The light is:

  • Soft and flattering

  • Less harsh than midday sun

  • Creates beautiful colors in the sky

  • More comfortable for dogs

  • Quieter with fewer people and distractions

Your dog is happier, more relaxed, and that almost always results in better photographs.

Safety Will Always Come First

As much as I love creating beautiful portraits, I love seeing happy, healthy dogs even more.

If conditions are too hot or unsafe, I may recommend moving your session to an earlier time, an indoor location, or another day with cooler weather.

Thank you for understanding that every scheduling decision I make is with your dog's well-being in mind.

I would much rather reschedule a session than risk a dog's health for a photograph.

I appreciate your trust and look forward to creating beautiful memories together—safely.
